When Jerseyman Ben asked if I'd draw one of the islands most beautiful birds as a long overdue 30th birthday present for his sister, we both agreed the cormorant should be depicted with its wings held out to dry.

In this majestic pose, I was able to really capture the gorgeous detail on the slick black feathers of this long necked bird.

When I was near to completion I shared photos with Ben of the commission and he fed back he'd like the cormorant to be stood on a rock, something I happily drew into the piece.

I was thrilled with how this drawing turned out and so was Ben. But more importantly, so was his sister Beth, who said it's a gift she will 'cherish.'
